Uses

For ending a pregnancy.

Instructions

This medicine may be taken with or without food.

Swallow with a full glass (8 oz) of water unless your doctor gives you different instructions.

If you are using an IUD for birth control, this must be removed before starting this treatment.

This medicine should be given by a trained health care provider.

Do not miss follow-up appointments. This medicine will not work if you do not receive all doses. Contact your provider right away if you can’t go to an appointment.

Avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice while on this medicine.

If you miss a dose, contact your doctor for instructions.

Drug interactions can change how medicines work or increase risk for side effects. Tell your health care providers about all medicines taken. Include prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal medicines. Speak with your doctor or pharmacist before starting or stopping any medicine.

Talk to your doctor before taking other medicines, including aspirins and ibuprofen containing products. Speak to your doctor about which medicines are safe to use while you are on this medicine.

Keep all appointments for medical exams and tests while on this medicine.

Do not take the medicine more than once during 24 hours.

Cautions

Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you ever had an allergic reaction to a medicine.

Vaginal bleeding may last up to 30 days and be much heavier than normal. Get medical help right away if bleeding soaks 2 thick sanitary pads each hour for 2 or more hours in a row, or if you have severe abdominal pain, fainting, fast heartbeat, or fever.

This medicine may cause dizziness or fainting. Do not stand or sit up quickly.

If possible, avoid using with marijuana or other medicines that can cause dizziness or drowsiness. These include allergy/cold products, muscle relaxers, sleep aids, and pain relievers.

Your ability to stay alert or to react quickly may be impaired by this medicine. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this medicine will affect you.

Please check with your doctor before drinking alcohol while on this medicine.

Avoid smoking while on this medicine. Smoking may increase your risk for serious side effects.

Tell the doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant, planning to be pregnant, or breastfeeding.

This medicine can cause birth defects. Speak with your doctor about birth control methods that should be used while on this medicine and for some time after stopping it.

Another pregnancy can occur before your normal periods begin again. To avoid unwanted pregnancy, begin birth control as soon as you complete this treatment.

Do not take St. John's wort while on this medicine.

After receiving treatment, do not travel where you cannot quickly reach emergency care.

Some patients have serious side effects from this medicine. Ask your pharmacist to show you the information from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and discuss it with you.

Side Effects

The following is a list of some common side effects from this medicine. Please speak with your doctor about what you should do if you experience these or other side effects.

  • dizziness
  • nausea and vomiting
  • stomach upset or abdominal pain
  • cramping of the uterus or bleeding from the vagina
  • weakness

Call your doctor or get medical help right away if you notice any of these more serious side effects:

  • severe or persistent abdominal pain
  • fainting
  • fever
  • fast or irregular heart beats
  • severe or persistent vomiting

A few people may have an allergic reaction to this medicine. Symptoms can include difficulty breathing, skin rash, itching, swelling, or severe dizziness. If you notice any of these symptoms, seek medical help quickly.
